It all started in the late 1980’s. Love at first sight. Gail and I saw our first Arabian mare at a friend’s home and were fascinated. We purchased our first mares at the Scottsdale Arabian Show in 1989. Open, gracious and generous people gave us advice and taught us about breeding, training, buying and selling along the way. Sheila Varian, Don DeLongpre’ and Richard Petty provided the foundation upon which we built Maroon Fire Arabians.
Our lifelong partnership with Tim and Marty Shea, excellent horse managers, trainers and marketing wizards, has been an incredibly fruitful and rewarding relationship both in business and personally. They have been the cornerstone of our breeding program. Their staff has provided exceptional support along the way and we are extremely grateful for their contributions. The magnificent Varian-bred stallion, Afire Bey V became our leading stallion and sire, the “Horse of a Lifetime” for the entire American Arabian horse breeding community. The fine mares that have been bred or owned have heavily influenced our success as well. Purchasing IXL Noble Express to breed to Afire Bey V’s daughters brought us to the next chapter of our success story. Joel and Ashton Kiesner trained IXL Noble Express and became integral team partners in the continued history of National Championship winners with Maroon Fire bloodlines. The crowning success of our breeding program has been Inception, who is the culmination of all that Maroon Fire and our team began in 1989. “Every year you plant for the next crop and you have no idea what is really going to happen.” We have ridden to incredible highs, made the difficult decisions and experienced peace in the presence of the mares and babies in the green pastures of summer at Shea Stables.
We are deeply grateful to all of you who have heralded the Arabian horse in the United States, have taught, walked alongside and celebrated with us for 40 years. With your assistance, this historical breeding program has changed the Arabian horse world. These beautiful animals have changed our lives and brought great joy as has your partnership with us.
As we close this chapter, we celebrate all that has been accomplished together and the friendships we have made along the way. We wish continued success to all of you who have Afire Bey V, IXL Noble Express and Inception progeny and look forward to more National Champions in your future. And with Afire Bey V and IXL Noble Express frozen semen donations to AEPA (Arabian English Pleasure Association) we look forward to continuing the legacy of MAROON FIRE ARABIANS long into the future.
